UPDATE ABOUT “WE ARE MUSICIANS”

Nominee of the FEDORA Education Prize 2021
“We are musicians”, the educational project led by Stara Zagora State Opera in Bulgaria, has grown well since the end of the Nominee phase, last June 2021, thanks to the generosity of our European philanthropic community.
The main idea of the project is to launch the first Bulgarian sensory-friendly interactive opera performance, suitable for children and youth with special educational needs. Moreover, it intends to provide inclusion opportunities for young people with developmental and behavioural challenges, who will be supported by young volunteers, psychologists, opera artists, and educational experts on their first opera experience. The endgame will be to provide a stage performance experience for the participants, where the young people with special educational needs will be able to feel and taste the magic of opera.
Successes unlocked thanks to your generosity
After a successful crowdfunding campaign, during which the opera house raised over €8,000, they managed to launch a preparatory-scale implementation of the programme:
The psychologist of the artistic team started musical workshops this month for three groups of children with special needs. Some of the participants will have a chance to take part in a performance of the opera in June/July this year. Depending on how the results of this work, the team is considering developing a sensory-friendly performance.
Thanks to the donations collected on the FEDORA Platform last spring, they have been able to order musical instruments that will be used in the workshops. Moreover, they have been able to start the preparation of sets for the workshops.
The success of this crowdfunding campaign has been made possible thanks to the generous support of our Corporate Member Variations International and an anonymous donor, who doubled the first €4,000 donated to the project.
